Kayaking Lake Powell to Antelope Canyon with Your Dog

Hi – We’re planning on trying to kayak antelope canyon in June. Wondering if you have any idea of how hard it is for two people to take a kayak from Antelope Point Marina to the water with the low water levels? We’re from out of state and have had mixed opinions from tour companies.

Hi Ashley – I’m not sure the water level impacts it. I think it’s strenuous no matter what. Some friends recently traveled to Antelope Canyon (water level low) and said kayaking with their dog was tough and we experienced the same thing when we visited (water level normal).

Check for Pet Restrictions: Some areas of Lake Powell may have restrictions on pets, so make sure to check with the National Park Service beforehand. Additionally, you may need to obtain a permit for your dog.

Thanks for sharing your experience! We are planning to go to the Antelope canyon with our little poodle as well but unfortunately we never kayaked so I was wondering if it’s possible to reach the lower or higher canyon in another way. Thanks

    • Melanie Rigden says:

Hi Antonio – You can rent a boat, but the only way to access lower canyon is by water and you’ll need a smaller water crafts to get to the shore.

Can you share who confirmed that Antelope Canyon allows dogs? We have our own kayaks and usually paddle with our small dog.

The canyon is on Navajo land though and is strictly protected because it’s a sacred place and the ecosystem is fragile. We definitely want to respect the land!

    • Melanie Rigden says:

Hi Carrie – There are several blogs online that state the lower canyon still allows dogs. They are not allowed on any tours, but if you access by water you’re fine to enjoy. The water levels are lower so kayaking is the only way to access. We rented from here: https://antelopepointlakepowell.com/kayak-and-sea-doo/m. You could contact them to confirm dogs are still allowed in the canyon.
