San Francisco

Clancy's Pumpkins & Christmas Trees

2101 Sloat Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94132

Located in the heart of the city, Clancy's transforms from a pumpkin patch in the fall to a Christmas tree lot in the winter. Dogs are welcome, and the patch offers a great selection of pumpkins and gourds. Since it's in San Francisco, visiting on a weekday can help you avoid the crowds. Parking can be tricky, so plan to park on nearby streets if the small lot is full. There’s no entry fee and they accept credit cards. The ambiance is festive and it’s best to visit at sunrise or sunset for the best lighting.

Sacramento

dave’s pumpkin patch

3010 Burrows Ave, West Sacramento, CA 95691

Dave’s is a more extensive farm experience, offering hayrides, a corn maze, and lots of pumpkins to choose from. While the pumpkin patch is dog-friendly, it’s also extremely kid friendly and busy, so it’s not my first choice for a pumpkin patch. They have food vendors on-site with delicious apple cider donuts. The best time to visit is early October to beat the rush and ensure the best pumpkin selection. Parking is free and plentiful, and there’s no entry fee, though activities like the corn maze may have a charge. Credit cards are accepted throughout the farm, making transactions easy.

Hours: September 23 to October 31, from 10 AM to 9 PM

COOL PATCH PUMPKINS

6150 Dixon Ave. W, Dixon, CA 95620

Cool Patch Pumpkins is my second favorite pumpkin patch to visit during the fall season. This is one of the larger pumpkin patches on the list and if you visit during the week it’s usually not too busy. Their walkways are lined with hay bails, cornstalks, and piles of pumpkins to create picturesque areas for photos. The majority of their pumpkins are the classic orange, but they do have some unique gourds gathered along areas of the walkway.

Beyond the curated area of the pumpkin patch where you make your pumpkin selections, you can walk through their pumpkin field where all their pumpkins grow. We visited towards the end of October and only the vines were left in the field, but it still made for a unique photo op. They have a dog-friendly corn maze that you can walk through with a purchase of a ticket. The attendants manning the entrance were nice enough to let us enter for a few photos without a ticket.

Hours: September 23 to October 31, from 9 AM to 8 PM

East Bay

Classic Pumpkin patch

6861 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, CA 94568

This charming pumpkin patch offers a variety of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and is home to the only pumpkin house I could find in the Bay Area. Besides pumpkins, the patch several carnival games surrounding the small pumpkin patch. I like taking photos with the string lights above the pumpkin patch and the pumpkin house, but the property definitely caters to kids so be prepared for little ones running around and for your dog to get dusty paws.

Hours: October 1 to October 31, from 10 AM to 8 PM, Closed on Mondays

Carmel

EARTHBOUND FARM’S FARM STAND

7250 Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923

Earthbound Farm's farmstand in Carmel is my favorite, most picturesque pumpkin patch to visit during the fall season. Earthbound Farm's features a market at the entrance where you can purchase produce and food to eat onsite. Dog are not allowed inside, but are welcome on leash throughout the pumpkin patch. The walkway of the entrance is lined with massive pumpkins, they have the cutest little pumpkin shack, and mounds of different pumpkin varietals throughout to purchase. You can grab a barrel if you plan on collecting a lot of pumpkins or just use it for photos. They even have decorative pumpkin towers with string lights running up and down the pumpkin patch with hay bails draped in blankets to sit on.

We ended up visiting on a Friday at mid-morning and it was busier than I expected. I’d love to go back and visit when it’s an overcast day as there isn’t much shade.

Hours: October 1 to October 31, from 10 AM to 6 PM
