Photoshoot With a Unicorn
PHOTOSHOOT INSPIRATION
Probably one of my favorite photoshoots to date, this one came about in an unplanned way.
A photographer we work with in St. Louis - Lynn Terry Photography - posted that she was doing princess mini sessions with a unicorn. Of course, Doodle Mom immediately messaged her asking if the “unicorn” (a mini horse with a horn) was comfortable with dogs. Lynn quickly replied “yes” and the next thing I know she’s buying me a dog princess costume and a custom unicorn horn and floral necklace to match the mini horse.
To really take things to the next level, she decided she would join in on the fun and dress up too. Now if you know Doodle Mom, you know she does not wear pink. But when a shoot calls for dressing like a princess with your dog, she’s apparently all in!
THE DETAILS
The photoshoot was held on a farm in Southern IL, just over the river from St. Louis, MO.
Lynn the photographer provided all the props: princess chair, tea party setup and flower swing. We just had to show up with our outfits, and we brought the balloons for an extra touch.
The shoot was scheduled for a nice, Fall Sunday morning, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. (Well, the wind could have been a little less (re: balloons) but we worked with it.)
ME & THE UNICORN
Prior to this shoot, I had met a horse before and was very interested. I even tried to get in the stable with it, so Doodle Mom didn’t think twice about introducing me to the mini horse that was playing the unicorn. Upon showing up, she quickly realized I was not going to be comfortable with the unicorn.
I’m a nervous nelly generally, but I was even more suspicious of this unicorn. I always kept my eye on the mini horse or would bark if it got too close to me or Doodle Mom. The last photo above is the closest we ever got to one another.
Not wanting to make me do anything I wasn’t comfortable with, Doodle Mom had to be in more photos than originally intended. Anytime we wanted the unicorn in the photos, she had to be by my side and the unicorn had to keep a safe distance.
All in all, the photoshoot still went great and Doodle Mom had another epic photoshoot in the books. And as you can probably guess, we always have great pictures to share for #NationalUnicornDay.
