The only hotel in Half Moon Bay that passes our vibe check for a truly elevated dog-friendly stay. Perched on a dramatic bluff overlooking the Pacific, the Ritz delivers five-star service, stunning coastal views, and a pet program that treats your dog like a proper guest. Dogs get beds and bowls on arrival, and the coastal trail, grassy grounds, and Ocean Terrace patio are all dog-welcoming.

A few things to know before you book: only the Guest House rooms are pet-friendly, so specify when reserving. The 40 lb weight limit rules this out for larger dogs — if you have a bigger pup, the Half Moon Bay Lodge or Inn at Mavericks are the better options. Dogs cannot be left unattended in rooms.

The most dog-forward mid-range option in the area and the one we’d send most people to if the Ritz isn’t in the budget. Part of the Best Western Signature Collection, the Lodge sits on 75 acres of coastal grounds with an outdoor heated pool, fire pit terrace, and ocean views. The flat $90/stay pet fee is one of the better deals in the area — no per-night charges stacking up on a long weekend. Grassy pet relief areas throughout the property, designated pet-friendly rooms, and a location that puts you close to the coastal trails and pumpkin farms.

The Lodge doesn’t have the boutique character of some other options but it’s consistent, well-maintained, and reliably dog-welcoming. A solid base for a weekend of hiking and beach time.

Your dog can be outside and off-leash in a contained space without you having to manage them constantly. That’s rare.

The inn is intimate, well-located for Pillar Point Harbor, and has the kind of character that a chain property doesn’t. The pet fee is among the lowest on this list. Dogs cannot be left unattended in rooms or on the patio.

The downtown location is an advantage to minimize some time in the car – walkable to restaurants and shops – but I personally think staying on the coast is the best part of visiting Half Moon Bay. 

The inn is charming rather than polished — it has a cozy, well-worn character that works for a casual coastal weekend. Not the right fit if you’re looking for a spa-level experience, but excellent value for dog owners who want to be in the middle of everything.
