If you have a full day available, the best way to see Almond Blossoms in Modesto is by a self-guided driving tour following the Almond Blossom Cruise Route via the Wayfarer audio tour. This scenic route lets you enjoy endless rows of pink and white blossoms from the comfort of your car, with plenty of pull-off spots for photos.
If you’re short on time, you can go straight to either of these public almond farms that have designated walking paths for visitors.

Rodin Farms
Located near Modesto, Rodin Farms is one of the only almond orchards in the area that opens its fields to the public during bloom season, making it a must-visit stop for spring travelers. For a limited time each year, visitors can walk directly through rows of blooming almond trees, creating an immersive experience surrounded by soft pink and white blossoms. With wide dirt paths and open space, it’s well-suited for leashed dogs and relaxed strolling. Expect peak bloom between late February and early March, weather permitting, and plan for weekend crowds during this short seasonal window. Bringing comfortable walking shoes, water for your pup, and arriving early will help you make the most of this unique Central Valley experience.
Roberts Ferry Farms
Just outside Modesto, Roberts Ferry is another rare destination where visitors are welcomed to walk through active almond orchards during blossom season, offering a firsthand look at one of California’s most iconic spring landscapes. The open fields allow you and your dog to wander beneath flowering trees, take photos, and experience the scale of almond farming up close. Access is typically seasonal and weather-dependent, so conditions may vary from packed dirt to muddy paths after rain. Pairing your visit with a stop at the nearby Roberts Ferry Gourmet Shop makes for a complete outing, blending scenic orchard walks with local food and a relaxed road trip vibe. As with Rodin Farms, visiting early in the day helps avoid crowds and ensures a quieter, more enjoyable experience.
Respect private orchards: Many almond farms are private property, so avoid trespassing and only visit locations that are open to the public.
Keep your dog leashed: Even in dog-friendly areas, it’s best to keep your pup on a leash to protect both the blossoms and your furry friend.
Bring water & waste bags: Stay hydrated and always clean up after your dog to keep the area beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
Be mindful of bees: Almond blossoms attract plenty of pollinators, so be cautious when walking through orchards or stopping for photos.

Hotels in Modesto do not pass our vibe check. There was a recent boutique hotel that opened nearby in Salida, but it sadly isn’t pet-friendly. In and around downtown Modesto you’ll find the typical chain options. We opted to stay at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Modesto for a points grab. It’s located just 10 minutes outside of downtown and was a very convenient location for all of our activities.

If you’re looking for a more unique option, we stayed in this “tree house” through AirBnB during our first visit. The house itself had a great vibe and was located in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown. The only issue we had was a pesky racoon on the deck that happened to be right outside our bedroom that did not have curtains. Rue was going crazy half the night until we eventually moved into a different bedroom.
Modesto’s food scene is…surprisingly good! We’ve visited the area twice for Almond Blossom season and our biggest takeawy was how good the food scene was. There’s a decent number of restaurants that have patio options for dining with your dog and Camp 4 was a stellar stand out for us. The whipped feta lives rent free in my head and the staff was so friendly!
