ToggleProbably one of my favorite photoshoots to date, this one came about in an unplanned way.
A photographer we work with in St. Louis – Lynn Terry Photography – posted that she was doing princess mini sessions with a unicorn. Of course, I immediately messaged her asking if the “unicorn” (a mini horse with a horn) was comfortable with dogs. Lynn quickly replied “yes” and the next thing I know I’m buying her a dog princess costume and a custom unicorn horn and floral necklace to match the mini horse.
To really take things to the next level, I decided I would join in on the fun and dress up too. Now if you know me, you know I do not wear pink. But when a shoot calls for dressing like a princess with your dog, I’m apparently all in!

The photoshoot was held on a farm in Southern IL, just over the river from St. Louis, MO.
Lynn the photographer provided all the props: princess chair, tea party setup and flower swing. We just had to show up with our outfits, and we brought the balloons for an extra touch.
The shoot was scheduled for a nice, Fall Sunday morning, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. (Well, the wind could have been a little less (re: balloons) but we worked with it.)

Prior to this shoot, Rue had met a horse before and was very interested, but upon showing up, I quickly realized she was not going to be comfortable with the unicorn.
Rue is a nervous nelly generally, but she was even more suspicious of this unicorn. She always kept her eye on the mini horse or would bark if it got too close to us. The last photo above is the closest we ever got to one another.
Not wanting to make Rue do anything she wasn’t comfortable with, I had to be in more photos than originally intended. Anytime we wanted the unicorn in the photos, I had to be by Rue’s side and the unicorn had to keep a safe distance.

All in all, the photoshoot still went great and we had another epic photoshoot in the books. And as you can probably guess, we always have great pictures to share for #NationalUnicornDay.

Oh my gosh!! If we didn’t already love Doodle Mom and Ruby Doodle, this post would’ve made us love them. Literally, it doesn’t get much cuter than this photoshoot. I’ve been wanting to do this with Emoree forever! They turned out amazing.—Also thinking you should sport the floral headband and pink more often.
Love you all!
Thanks so much, Taylor! Definitely one of the more unique shoots we’ve done. I held on to the accessories just in case, but they haven’t made it out of the closet yet.
Lynn does this session every year – you and Emoree have to do it!
